Ex-justice official jailed for assault on traffic cops
A court in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho on Tuesday handed down a 15-month jail term to a former justice official for assaulting traffic cops in July, Tuoi Tre reported. Four sentenced in kidney-trafficking ring in southern Vietnam
Four people on Tuesday received jail terms totaling 22 years at a hearing in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho for sending young men to China to sell their kidneys. Woman dies as ferry boat sinks in central Vietnam
A pregnant woman drowned after a ferry boat sank in the central province of Quang Nam on Monday. At around 6:30 a.m., a ferry boat carrying 40 people, several dozens of motorbikes, bicycles and a two-ton truck sank on a river from Tam Hai to Tam Giang Commune in Nui Thanh District. Thirty-nine passengers were rescued, local authorities said.

Accusations against Vietnam deputy health minister investigated
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has ordered the government inspectorate to investigate allegations that deputy health minister Cao Minh Quang has slanded a local drug company. According to a letter sent to Dung, the Ho Chi Minh City-based BV Pharma Joint-Venture Co. claimed that Quang has falsely accused the company of illegally selling Pseudoephedrine hydrochloride. Ministry questions golf course on defense-owned land
The Ministry of Construction has asked the Government Office to clarify a Ministry of National Defense proposal to build a golf course on a 176-hectare plot of land currently being used as a shooting range, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported.
