Located within a tranquil melaleuca (cajeput) forest, the Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary is one of the Mekong Delta’s most significant bird conservation sites. Spanning several hundred hectares, it provides a lush, wetland haven for countless bird species, especially during the rainy season.

🛖 Visitor Experience:

  • A raised observation tower offers panoramic views over the forest canopy, perfect for photography and spotting flocks in flight.

  • Walking trails and buggy tours guide visitors through the sanctuary, with options to go on foot accompanied by a local guide who can point out rare bird species and explain the local ecosystem.

🦢 Birdwatching Highlights:
From July to December, the sanctuary is teeming with life—expect to see a wide variety of species including egrets, herons, cormorants, and potentially the endangered painted stork. During the dry season (January to June), bird activity decreases, and sightings are more sporadic.

📸 Best Time to Visit:

  • Early mornings or late afternoons during the wet season (July–December) offer the best chances to observe birds in large numbers and catch their most active moments.

Despite a slight decline in bird populations in recent years due to habitat changes, the Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary remains a must-visit destination for nature lovers, eco-tourists, and photographers looking to experience the Delta’s natural beauty up close.
