🌍 Soc Trang and Surroundings

Situated along a winding arm of the Mekong River, Soc Trang may not have the same flair as some other towns in the Mekong Delta, but it offers a unique charm. Known for its significant Khmer population, a visit to Soc Trang feels like a brief, immersive journey into Cambodia without leaving Vietnam.

The town is divided by a waterway running from west to east, with the majority of Soc Trang located along the southern bank. Hai Ba Trung Street serves as the town’s main artery, stretching across the water and eventually transforming into Tran Hung Dao Street on the southern edge.

One of the highlights of Soc Trang is the Oc Om Bok Festival, which takes place on the fifteenth day of the tenth lunar month, typically between November and December. During this vibrant celebration, the town comes alive as thousands gather to witness the traditional Khmer boat races (thuyen dua). This annual event is a must-see for visitors, offering a glimpse into the local culture and festive spirit of the area.

Whether you’re exploring the town’s peaceful waterways, indulging in its unique culture, or visiting during the festival, Soc Trang provides a memorable experience in the heart of the Mekong Delta.
