Day 4 HA GIANG MOTORBIKE TRIPS TO DONG VAN

Today's ride promises to be a highlight of the journey, showcasing one of the most enchanting regions for Vietnam Motorcycle Tours. We will venture into one of Vietnam's remotest lands, characterized by diverse ethnic groups, unique cultures, and majestic mountains. Our route includes the awe-inspiring "Heaven Gate" in Quan Ba, the striking Rock Plateau, and the historical Vuong Palace in Dong Van. The overnight stay is in Dong Van.

Accommodation: Khai Hoan Hotel

Distance: 145 km, 5 hours riding

Quan Ba Heaven Gate: Situated approximately 1,500m above sea level, this marks the entrance to Dong Van Plateau. The road leading to Quan Ba Heaven Gate winds through limestone mountains, offering panoramic views of vast terraced fields in a valley—a picturesque sight resembling a paradise shrouded in clouds.

Dong Van Plateau: Located north of Ha Giang, near the Sino-Vietnamese border, this plateau is dominated by karst mountains. Dong Van is an excellent destination for trekking and mountain climbing, challenging adventurers with its grandiose peaks. The plateau also offers breathtaking landscapes and opportunities to engage with local ethnic minorities, gaining insights into their life stories—a unique experience found nowhere else in the world.

Hmong King Palace: Found in Xa Phin Village of Dong Van District, approximately 24 km from the district center, this palace covers an area of 1120 m². Built in the early twentieth century, its architectural design forms the shape of the Chinese character "王" (meaning "king" in English). Serving as both a historical relic and a remarkable architectural landmark of local ethnic groups, the palace draws the interest of many visitors.

Dong Van Old Town: Nestled in a valley surrounded by rocks, this quarter was established in the early 20th century and initially inhabited by H’mong, Tay, and Chinese families. Over time, more local residents settled here. The oldest house, built by the Luong family, dates back to 1860. The prevalent architecture features two-story houses with yin and yang roofs. The lifestyle and daily activities of ethnic groups such as Kinh, Tay, Mong, Hoa, etc., provide a captivating glimpse into their unique way of life.

Day 5 VIETNAM MOTORBIKE TOUR TO HA GIANG VIA THAC BA, BAC HA, BA BE: DONG VAN MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO BAO LAC

Take the opportunity to explore Dong Van street. If your visit coincides with a Sunday, don't miss the chance to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the weekly market in Dong Van. This lively marketplace brings together various ethnic groups showcasing their local products. The market transforms into a festive hub where locals gather to socialize, converse, and enjoy drinks.

Continue the journey towards Bao Lac via Meo Vac, with the Ma Pi Leng Pass standing out as a key highlight. Conquering the Ma Pi Leng Pass is an adventurous feat, and upon reaching the destination, settle into a guesthouse in Bao Lac.

Ma Pi Leng Pass: The road through this pass is challenging, but a stop offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the province. The scenery along Ma Pi Leng Pass is unparalleled, characterized by majestic and untouched beauty. To the north and northeast, a vast expanse of gray mountains stretches to the horizon. Beyond Ma Pi Leng, a mountain with a height of 2,000 meters marks the 'Happiness' road connecting Ha Giang, Dong Van, and Meo Vac town.

Meo Vac Town: Nestled in a compact valley surrounded by rocky mountains, Meo Vac is a captivating destination. The journey to Meo Vac, particularly along the spectacular Mai Pi Leng Pass, is an attraction in itself. The town is home to diverse ethnic minority groups, including the H’mong, Kinh, Tay, Dao, and more. Each ethnic group has preserved its culture, largely untouched by external influences.

Accommodation: Thuy Duong Hotel in Bao Lac, Cao Bang

Distance: 100 km, 4 hours riding

Day 6 VIETNAM MOTORBIKE TOUR TO HA GIANG VIA THAC BA, BAC HA, BA BE: BAO LAC MOTORCYCLE TOUR TO BA BE LAKE VIA MEO VAC TOWN

Today, our journey leads us to Ba Be Lake and National Park, where the scenery is nothing short of spectacular.

Upon arrival, you have the freedom to indulge in leisurely activities such as a boat trip or a stroll to explore the Tay people's village. Spend the night in the welcoming homestay of a Tay family.

Ba Bể Lake: Translating to "Three Lakes" in the local Tay language, Ba Bể Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake, extending approximately 8 kilometers in a north-south direction. The lake's surface area varies between 3 and 5 km², fluctuating with the seasons. Remarkably, unlike many lakes in Karst limestone regions, Ba Bê Lake never dries up. With an average depth ranging between 17 and 23 meters and a maximum depth of 35 meters, it stands as Vietnam's highest lake, positioned about 150 meters above sea level. The name "Three Lakes" originates from the three parts of the lake: Pe Leng, Pe Lu, and Pe Lam. Although distinct, these three parts seamlessly merge into a continuous body of water.

The lake receives contributions from the Ta Han, Bo Lu, and Leng Rivers from the south and west. In the dry season, water flows northwards from the lake into the Nang River. Conversely, during the wet season's high floods, this flow is reversed, with the lake drawing water from the Nang River, serving as a vital buffer that regulates flooding.
