Train travel is an integral part of the local experience. Cabins are shared with fellow local passengers unless a private cabin is requested and all berths are paid for, with an additional charge. Restrooms at either end of the carriages contribute to the authentic local experience.
Upon arriving at Lao Cai Train Station around 05:00, embark on a one-hour bus journey uphill to the picturesque town of Sapa. This ride provides a sneak peek of the breathtaking landscapes and remarkable rice terraces that have made Sapa renowned among travelers.
At 9:30 AM, rendezvous with your local guide to commence the trek. The initial part leads us along the road, but we soon veer to the right, following a narrow path descending into the valley towards Y Linh Ho village, situated by the Muong Hoa River. From here, proceed to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai. The Black Hmong is one of the predominant minority groups in the Sapa region, possessing their distinct language and adorning traditional indigo blue attire. Having recently transitioned from a nomadic lifestyle to a more settled one, traces of their past are visible in rudimentary houses and stone walls surrounding their homes. Continue the journey to Ta Van village (1,200 m) to encounter the Zay people, a relatively small minority group of approximately 38,000 individuals residing primarily in the Northwestern mountains of Vietnam.
Following the exploration of Ta Van village, the car will transport you back to Sapa. Enjoy leisure time for the remainder of the day. Overnight stay at Sapa Hotel.
Embark on a leisurely stroll to the southwest of Sapa (approximately 3 km) to explore Cat Cat Village, home to the Black Hmong people and one of Sapa's renowned ethnic villages. Unwind at the base of a magnificent waterfall and explore the remnants of a hydroelectric power station built by the French during Vietnam's colonial era.
Indulge in a picnic lunch beside the river and then continue trekking for another 3 km to Sin Chai Village, nestled at the foot of Fansipan Mountain, also known as "the Roof of Indochina," offering breathtaking mountain vistas.
Return to the main road and transfer back to Sapa town on a jeep for 3 km.
Between 15:00 and 15:30, the driver will pick you up for a 5-hour journey back to Hanoi.
