Afternoon: Cu Chi Tunnels
Situated 60km from HCMC, Cu Chi has become a popular destination for both Vietnamese and international tourists. This extensive network of over 200km of tunnels achieved legendary status for its crucial role during the War. In its prime, these tunnels formed subterranean cities, complete with trap doors, purpose-built living spaces, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens.
Today, the riverside scenery along the road is tranquil, with ducks and water buffalos peacefully coexisting. Yet, this serene rural landscape conceals a violent history. The remnants of destruction, damage, and defoliation caused by bombing and mines are still evident. The area witnessed intense battles during the 1960s when Cu Chi was designated a "Free Target Zone."
Our tour commences in the morning, starting with a short introductory video showcasing the tunnel construction. Spend the following hour exploring the intricate tunnels. Conclude the visit with tea and cassava, the guerrillas' sustenance during the war. Return to Saigon.
