The Cu Chi tunnel system was ingeniously constructed by the Viet Cong, a Communist guerrilla group, during the Vietnam War as a strategic defense against American colonial forces and the South Vietnamese military. This labyrinthine network, stretching over 220 km, has become a legendary and unique subterranean architecture. The tunnels served various functions, featuring trap doors, storage facilities, specially designed living quarters, hospitals, command centers, and kitchens. Today, Cu Chi tunnels have gained popularity among both Vietnamese and international travelers.
08:00 - 08:30: Your designated tour guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel to embark on the journey to Cu Chi, situated 60 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Recognized as a heroic district for its pivotal role in the anti-American war, Cu Chi's extensive tunnel system, with over 220 km of passages, remains an iconic and covert architectural marvel underground.
As you traverse through the serene rural landscape adorned with rice paddies, witness the idyllic scenes of ducks and water buffalos gracefully navigating the rivers. It is a stark contrast to the destruction, damage, and defoliation caused by bombings and mines during the period when Cu Chi was deemed a "Free Target Zone." The remnants scattered throughout the area bear witness to the intense battleground that unfolded there.
During the visit, adventurous individuals can attempt to crawl through the tunnels (not recommended for those with ample body size or advanced age).
