Welcome to Phnom Penh! Upon your arrival, a guide will greet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. Please be aware that the standard check-in time is 2:00 PM. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the option to join an additional tour.
Explore Phnom Penh on a discovery tour starting at 8:00 AM, where you'll be greeted by your driver and guide. Begin with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school turned detention center during the Khmer Rouge era, and then proceed to the somber Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. These poignant sites offer crucial insights into Cambodia’s tragic past.
Afterward, the day takes a lighter turn with a visit to the Russian Market, the largest in Cambodia, where you'll find a wide range of items from carvings and jewelry to clothing and souvenirs. Enjoy a Khmer lunch at a local restaurant, savoring traditional dishes.
In the afternoon, explore Wat Phnom, a picturesque hilltop temple surrounded by well-maintained gardens. Continue to the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, named for its floor covered with 5,000 silver tiles and renowned for its collection of Buddha statues in gold, silver, crystal, and bronze. Conclude your day with a relaxing sunset cruise on the Mekong River before returning to your hotel.
This morning, you'll embark on a private transfer to Battambang, a journey of about 5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Along the way, you'll visit Kampong Chhnang to observe local pottery-making. Many families here craft pottery in their homes and are welcoming to visitors. Additionally, stop by Phnom Meas, a well-organized cooperative workshop located at the base of the hill.
Upon arrival in Battambang, check into your hotel. Please note that the standard check-in time is 2:00 PM.
In the afternoon, explore Phnom Sampov, also known as 'Ship Mountain' due to its ship-like shape. This 100-meter-high mountain, crowned by Wat Sampeou, features three natural caves adorned with Buddhist shrines and statues: Pkasla, Lakhaon, and Aksopheak. The Pkasla cave, notable for its uprooted stones, is a site of celebration for locals after marriages, while some caves were used by the Khmer Rouge as killing sites. Enjoy refreshments of fresh coconut and snacks as you wait for the evening spectacle, where around 6:00 PM, millions of bats emerge from the caves, creating a dramatic, flowing ribbon across the sky.
This morning, embark on a Remork (TukTuk) tour around the village to discover local products. You'll explore the process of making rice paper, a staple in Asian cuisine, taste dried bananas, and sample homemade rice wine, known for its sweet and smooth flavor. Experience a ride on a norry, a traditional Cambodian rail vehicle, as you enjoy a fun and adventurous Bamboo Train ride along a newly laid railway track, offering views of picturesque rice fields and local villages. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant.
After lunch, head to Banan Temple, where the architectural styles of the mid-11th and late 12th centuries converge. Initially constructed by King Ut Tak Yea Tit Tya Varman II (1050-1066) and later completed by King Jayavarman VII (1181-1219), this temple sits atop a mountain approximately 400 meters high.
Return to your hotel in the evening and enjoy some leisure time.
