Embark on an unforgettable 5-day journey through the enchanting landscapes of Chiang Mai and the majestic Doi Inthanon National Park. Begin your adventure in the cultural heart of northern Thailand, where you’ll explore ancient temples, vibrant markets, and the rich local traditions. Then, ascend to Doi Inthanon, the country’s highest peak, renowned for its stunning waterfalls, breathtaking views, and diverse flora and fauna. Enjoy guided treks through lush trails, visit hill tribe villages, and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of this remarkable region. This tour offers a perfect blend of culture, nature, and adventure, making it an ideal escape for every traveler.
You’ll be picked up at 10:00 AM from the CHIANG MAI GATE HOTEL in the heart of Chiang Mai and transferred by private minivan to Tuk Tuk HQ in Mae Wang, located about 45-60 minutes southwest of the city.
Upon arrival, you’ll check into a charming local hotel, your home for the next few nights. You'll also meet your Tuk Tuk—this delightful vehicle will soon become your favorite mode of transport! Plus, you’ll get to know your driver and guide team.
Our Tuk Tuks are specially designed to navigate the winding mountain roads while providing comfort and great views from the back seat. They come equipped with Bluetooth speakers for your favorite playlists, and you can even retract the roof to soak up some sun!
After checking in, enjoy a tasty lunch at a relaxed local eatery, where your guide will outline the exciting adventures to come. In the afternoon, you'll undergo comprehensive Tuk Tuk driver training, led by our expert trainers, which typically lasts 60-90 minutes. Then, you’ll set off to explore quaint rural lanes, lesser-known communities, and captivating temples, all offering stunning vistas. At one of the temples, you'll receive a blessing for your upcoming adventures, giving you insight into the community's relationship with local monks and their temple.
You’ll return to base in the late afternoon, allowing you to freshen up before heading out for an authentic Thai dinner at a cozy country pub, complete with delicious food and live music in a unique setting.
After breakfast, you'll hop back into your Tuk Tuk (and we bet you'll already feel a sense of ownership over your vehicle!) to continue exploring the local area in convoy. Enjoy stunning views of the mountains we’ll be visiting tomorrow as you navigate charming small roads and picturesque villages, culminating in a visit to a spectacular and lesser-known viewpoint.
Next, you’ll journey along country lanes to an incredible elephant sanctuary that prioritizes the well-being of these magnificent creatures. This sanctuary is dedicated to transitioning elephants away from trekking lives, creating an environment where they can interact with people on their own terms.
Upon arrival, you'll gain insight into the elephants’ histories and the sanctuary's mission. After enjoying a delicious lunch at the facility, you’ll have the chance to connect with these gentle giants. You'll feed them, get acquainted, and then take a leisurely walk with them (riding is not permitted) to a nearby river for a fun bath.
As the day winds down, experience a change of pace while floating downstream on bamboo rafts. Later, you'll make your way back to base camp in a convoy, ready for dinner and preparing for another exciting day ahead.
After an early breakfast, you’ll set off along charming country roads toward Thailand’s tallest peak, Doi Inthanon.
Your guide will lead the way in the front Tuk Tuk, with everyone traveling in convoy while a support vehicle follows behind. This vehicle carries your luggage, spare parts for the Tuk Tuks (better to be prepared!), and plenty of water. Each Tuk Tuk is equipped with a walkie-talkie, allowing your guide to share information and answer any questions you may have, as well as facilitating chats with fellow travelers!
The first 20-30 kilometers of the journey feature gentle curves, but soon you'll encounter breathtaking switchbacks, incredible scenery, and small Karen hill tribe villages as you approach the National Park.
You'll be met with astonished looks from locals as Tuk Tuks navigate this high in the mountains—trust us, the novelty factor is off the charts! Frequent stops will allow you to explore various villages and scenic viewpoints, along with tasting delicious coffee and snacks in small towns. Lunch will be enjoyed at a roadside eatery featuring hearty Thai dishes.
By mid-afternoon, you’ll arrive at your accommodation in the village of Mae Khlang Luang. Then, hop into another iconic Thai transport—a ‘Songtaew,’ a shared taxi converted from a pickup truck—that will take you to the summit of Doi Inthanon (over 2,500 meters). Here, you can explore trails and soak in the stunning views.
As evening falls, enjoy a traditional Thai BBQ set against the backdrop of rice fields as the sun sets over the mountains. What a perfect way to wrap up the day!
Today, the Tuk Tuks will take a break while you set off to explore the foothills of Doi Inthanon on foot!
Your adventure begins with a brief truck ride, followed by a guided hike into the forest led by an exceptional local expert who knows the ins and outs of every tree and plant—and can even spot snakes from a distance! You’ll trek past breathtaking waterfalls, bubbling streams, and towering trees.
There will be several opportunities to cool off with a swim in the pools beneath the waterfalls, and you'll enjoy a packed lunch (wrapped in leaves) in a serene forest clearing.
The hike concludes with a descent back to the village where you spent the night. Here, you’ll have the chance to savor the freshest coffee at a charming, old-style mountain café (it’s such a unique spot that words don’t do it justice!).
NOTE: This trek is suitable for everyone. The total distance is approximately 5-6 kilometers, and we maintain a leisurely pace; after the initial uphill stretch, most of the trail is flat or downhill.
In the evening, you’ll be treated to another fantastic meal with a view of the rice terraces, perhaps accompanied by a cold beer or two to celebrate the day!
This morning marks the conclusion of your 5-day adventure as you bid farewell to your Tuk Tuk and make your way back to Chiang Mai City in a private minivan.
The journey will occur in the morning, allowing you to arrive at The Chiang Mai Gate Hotel before noon.
