Discover the vibrant culture of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and delve into the historic Cu Chi Tunnels. Experience the rich traditions of the Mekong Delta before concluding your journey in Siem Reap, home to the awe-inspiring temples of Angkor. This tour offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, historical insights, and cultural exploration.
Upon arriving in Hanoi, Vietnam's charming capital, you'll be transferred to your hotel for check-in. Following a briefing on the upcoming tour, you'll have the pleasure of dining at one of the city's top restaurants this evening.
Explore the Ho Chi Minh Quarter, where you'll visit the mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh’s former residence, and the One Pillar Pagoda. Next, head to the Temple of Literature and the notorious 'Hanoi Hilton' prison. In the evening, enjoy a captivating water puppet show.
Begin the day with an early departure as we head east to Hon Gai, about 170km away, which serves as the entrance to Halong Bay. Along the way, observe traditional rice farming techniques in the fields. Halong Bay gained worldwide recognition through the French film Indochine featuring Catherine Deneuve, but its significance in Vietnamese folklore dates back centuries and continues to enchant visitors. Upon arrival, transfer to the port and embark on a boat to explore the bay's stunning scenery. Known as Vietnam’s premier natural wonder, Halong Bay features over 3,000 islands that rise dramatically from the sea, creating a breathtaking landscape. We’ll visit its caves, appreciate its grandeur, and stop at a secluded bay for a swim. Enjoy a seafood lunch on the boat before heading back to Hanoi for a relaxing evening.
This morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Saigon. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam's bustling commercial hub, showcases the country's dynamic modernization. In the afternoon, embark on a walking tour to discover Saigon's notable landmarks. Stroll along Dong Khoi Street (formerly Rue Catinat), passing significant sites like the Rex Hotel, Ho Chi Minh Square, the Municipal Theatre, and Notre Dame Cathedral. After visiting the Reunification Palace (formerly the Presidential Palace) and the War Remnants Museum, head to Cholon, the city’s vibrant Chinatown. Explore the sprawling Binh Tay Wholesale Market, a hive of activity with diverse shops, and then visit the intricately designed Thien Hau Temple, dedicated to the Sea Goddess.
This morning, join a cooking class at the Vietnam Cookery Centre, where you'll experience an engaging and enjoyable lesson in Vietnamese cuisine. The class is designed to be both fun and educational, and you'll have the chance to taste the dishes you prepare. After lunch, travel to Cu Chi to explore the remarkable tunnel network. These tunnels were originally constructed to facilitate guerrilla warfare against the French and later American forces. Stretching over 250 kilometers and extending down to three levels, the tunnels offer a fascinating glimpse into the resourcefulness and resolve of the communist fighters during the Vietnam War. If you're interested in exploring the local nightlife, Saigon offers a wide range of options to suit every taste.
This morning, head south into the heart of the Mekong Delta. Along the way, you'll see farmers working in their fields and drying produce by the roadside. In My Tho, embark on a boat ride along one of the Mekong’s major tributaries. We'll visit islands like Phoenix or Unicorn and explore local farms and small industries, including a coconut candy workshop and a honey production facility. Enjoy a walk through tropical fruit orchards and taste the fresh local produce. We’ll also navigate the narrow canals of the Delta in traditional sampans before returning to Saigon via My Tho. Arriving in the mid-afternoon, you’ll have free time to do some last-minute shopping or further explore Vietnam’s largest city.
Take the morning to bid farewell to the lively city of Saigon before catching your flight to Siem Reap, home to Asia’s most impressive temple structures and the iconic Angkor Wat. Once you’ve settled into your hotel, explore the historic area of Siem Reap and pick up any supplies you’ll need for your upcoming visit to the Angkor temples.
The Angkor temples span 600 years of Khmer civilization (802-1432), representing one of Asia’s most magnificent empires. Your day begins with an early visit to Angkor Wat for sunrise, followed by a detailed exploration of this awe-inspiring temple. Next, head to the southern Gate of Angkor Thom, where you’ll find 54 stone figures on either side—gods on the left and demons on the right. Continue to the remarkable fortified city of Angkor Thom and its 12th-century centerpiece, The Bayon, known for its intricately carved central towers. Next, visit Ta Prohm temple, a captivating structure enveloped by jungle that has remained untouched since its rediscovery by French explorers in the 1850s. Finally, we drive to the 10th-century Temple of Banteay Srei, often referred to as the ‘Citadel of the Women,’ which many consider the ‘jewel’ of Angkor. This marks the conclusion of your day exploring the temples.
This morning, take some time to relax at your leisure before heading out in the afternoon for a scenic cruise on the stunning Tonle Sap Lake. During the journey, you'll see a floating village that includes schools, eateries, and even a floating hospital. In the early evening, we return to the hotel and later explore one of Siem Reap’s excellent dining options.
Today, you'll be taken to the airport to catch your next flight.
