Experience the serene beauty of Tonle Sap Lake with visits to floating villages in Prek Toal and Moat Khla. Discover the unique charm of Chhnok Tru and delve into local culture in Kompong Chhnang. Enjoy a visit to the traditional villages of Koh Chen and Koh Oknha Tei. Conclude your adventure in Phnom Penh, where you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant history and culture of Cambodia’s capital.
Meet at our Siem Reap location and board our comfortable, air-conditioned bus for a scenic 45-minute drive through the countryside to the Tonle Sap Lake dock. Check into your luxurious three-story floating hotel and settle into your retreat, which offers mesmerizing views through its expansive window wall. Relax and savor the serene Mekong experience from your California king bed, terrace, or daybed.
Embark on a skiff journey into the 22,000-hectare Prek Toal Core Bird Reserve, one of Asia's largest freshwater areas and a vital sanctuary for large waterbirds such as the spot-billed pelicans, milky storks, black-headed ibises, and the rare masked finfoot. Following lunch, we will explore the floating village of Moat Khla, which can only be reached by boat, and participate in a Buddhist blessing ceremony in this remote community.
Discover the secluded villages surrounding Tonle Sap Lake, which has been recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1997. In Chhnok Tru, experience a unique visit to a floating ice factory and gain insights from locals about life in a community where schools, churches, pagodas, karaoke bars, and even the police station float on water. We will then continue to Kampong Chhnang, known as the 'Port of Pottery' due to its archaeological heritage dating back to the 6th century, to further explore traditional Khmer riverside life.
This morning, we will explore Koh Chen, a village celebrated for its expert silversmithing. Look out for their renowned silver bowls, which are often selected by Cambodia's royal family as gifts for distinguished guests. In the afternoon, we will travel to the Mekong’s ‘silk islands,’ where you can observe skilled weavers at work and appreciate their detailed artistry. For those interested in a more immersive experience, biking is available to venture further into the island.
We showcase the highlights of Cambodia’s capital aboard a motorized tuk-tuk, including the Royal Palace, the Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum of Cambodia, which boasts the largest collection of Khmer art globally. Those interested can explore the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum or enjoy some shopping at the Russian Market. The tour concludes in Phnom Penh.
