Welcome to Bangkok, the vibrant capital of Thailand, known for its bustling streets, delectable street food, and iconic longtail boats navigating through the intricate canal network. Our tour leader will meet you at the hotel reception at 6pm for a warm welcome and an optional group dinner. Feel free to arrive in Bangkok at your convenience today, and if you prefer a complimentary airport transfer, please arrive at Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK). In case you miss the welcome meeting, your tour leader will provide you with essential information afterward. For those interested, there's an exciting optional khlong canal trip available today. Meet in the reception at 12 noon to join this excursion, exploring Bangkok's enchanting backwaters and visiting the awe-inspiring Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn). The trip departs at 1pm and returns around 4pm. If you're arranging your own flights, we recommend a flight arrival no later than 10am to allow sufficient time for airport procedures.
Embark on a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Nakornnayok Province, immersing ourselves in the captivating landscapes of Khao Yai National Park. Our cycling adventure begins with a breathtaking view of Thailand's largest dam, Khun Dan Prakan Chon Dam, offering panoramic vistas from its pinnacle. Pedaling further, we reach Heaw Narok waterfall, boasting three magnificent cascades. Indulge in authentic Thai cuisine and refreshing beverages at rustic riverside restaurants, savoring mouthwatering dishes like somtam (spicy papaya salad) with grilled chicken and sticky rice. Concluding our day's journey, we take a short drive to our overnight accommodation. Today's cycling distance totals approximately 50 kilometers.
After breakfast, we embark on a two-hour drive to Aranyaprathet, interspersed with an afternoon cycling expedition through idyllic rural landscapes. Pedal through quaint villages and immerse ourselves in the unhurried pace of countryside living. Our route leads us to Rong Kluea Market, known as Ban Khlong Luek Border Market, one of Thailand's bustling border markets. After exploring its vibrant offerings, we drive to our hotel in Aranyaprathet to freshen up before dinner. Today's cycling distance totals approximately 40-50 kilometers.
In the morning, we embark on a short 15-minute drive to Poipet International border. After completing the necessary Cambodia visa formalities, we bid farewell to our Thai support team and bikes, and meet our new hosts for the remainder of the journey. Our drive to Siem Reap, the captivating gateway town to the magnificent Khmer temples of Angkor, will take approximately 4 hours. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel and have the opportunity to visit the enchanting Bayon temple and the South Gate of Angkor Thom by bus, just in time for a breathtaking sunset. The evening is free for you to explore the town's vibrant atmosphere and sample its diverse culinary delights. Please note that starting from January 1, 2020, the third tier of the Bayon Temple will be closed until 2022 for extensive restoration. However, the lower two tiers will remain open for visitors to admire the impressive bas-reliefs and intricate stone carvings. No cycling activities are scheduled for today.
Today, we embark on a short drive to Angkor Wat to retrieve our bikes, which will accompany us for the remainder of our journey. Our cycling adventure begins as we explore the ancient temple cities. We pedal through hidden trails, unveiling the wonders of Ta Prohm Temple, entwined with lush jungle foliage. Continuing our ride, we discover the mesmerizing ruins of Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terraces, the Bayon, Baphoun, and Preah Khan. In the afternoon, we marvel at the magnificent architecture and intricate bas-reliefs of Angkor Wat. As the day concludes, we cycle back to our hotel, covering a distance of approximately 25 kilometers. Today's ride mainly consists of off-road trails, offering a non-technical yet immersive experience.
Escape the crowds as we embark on a captivating cycling journey to the serene village of Rolous, where we explore ancient temples and immerse ourselves in the local market atmosphere. After a restful break and exploration of the vibrant stalls, we board a boat to Kompong Phluk, a remarkable floating village in Tonle Sap Lake. Pedaling through rural Cambodia, we engage with the local community, witnessing their unique way of life, from floating pig pens to children paddling and singing. Our boat trip is followed by a delightful home-hosted lunch, where we have the opportunity to learn about local cuisine and daily life. In the afternoon, we hop on our bus to visit Banteay Srey. Once again on our bikes, we cycle approximately 25 kilometers to either Pre Rup, where we can relish the stunning sunset. We then have the option to cycle or drive back to Siem Reap, completing a total cycling distance of approximately 56 kilometers.
Today, we bid farewell to the enchanting Angkor temples and set our course southward to Phnom Penh. While it's a longer day of travel, encompassing approximately six to seven hours on the bus, we'll make memorable stops along the way. Our journey includes a visit to the renowned ancient bridge at Kompong Kdei, providing a glimpse into Cambodia's historical marvels. Upon reaching the capital, we venture off the highway and proceed to the Koh Dach ferry dock. A delightful excursion awaits as we board a local ferry, traversing the Mekong River to Koh Dach Island, renowned for its traditional Khmer weaving village. Here, the island's artisans showcase their exceptional skills in silk weaving, utilizing age-old looms and producing vibrant dyes. Immerse yourself in the island's tranquil ambiance as we embark on a 22-kilometer cycling expedition, exploring the scenic surroundings and immersing ourselves in the traditional way of life. Afterward, we return to our bus via the same ferry, concluding our island experience. A short drive then takes us to the vibrant city of Phnom Penh. Today's cycling distance totals approximately 37 kilometers.
Phnom Penh, a dynamic city adorned with splendid French colonial architecture, invites exploration. Formerly the capital city of Cambodia, it succeeded Angkor in the 1440s. Today, we delve into its rich history and poignant sites alongside a local guide. Our itinerary includes the thought-provoking Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, once a high school turned Khmer Rouge interrogation center; the National Museum, housing a treasure trove of exquisitely preserved Angkor artifacts; and the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, offering a glimpse into Cambodia's regal heritage. In the afternoon, we venture beyond the city limits to the chilling Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, where a memorial stupa stands, adorned with a tower filled with human skulls—an unsettling testament to the magnitude of Pol Pot's atrocities. No cycling is scheduled for today.
Following breakfast, we embark on a three-hour drive to Prek Chak, where we complete the necessary Vietnamese visa formalities. From there, a short bus journey brings us to the captivating town of Ha Tien. Mounting our bikes, we spend the afternoon exploring this enchanting and vibrant riverside town, adorned with lively markets and surrounded by dramatic limestone formations. With its picturesque location on the Gulf of Thailand, Ha Tien offers breathtaking scenery as we settle in for the night. Today's cycling distance totals approximately 20 kilometers.
We depart from Ha Tien town and drive approximately 30 kilometers before commencing our cycling journey. Today's route follows the serene path of the Vinh Te Canal, once a prominent border between Vietnam and Cambodia. En route, we visit the Bone Pagoda in Tri Ton, a somber reminder of the Khmer Rouge era. Continuing through the lush Tra Su Cajeput forest, adorned with emerald green wetlands, water hyacinths, and water lilies, we conclude our ride in the charming town of Chau Doc, nestled on the banks of the Hau Giang River. Here, we will spend the night. The total cycling distance for today is approximately 50 kilometers.
After a short drive from Chau Doc to Long Xuyen, lasting under two hours, we embark on a ferry ride and resume cycling towards Dinh Yen village, known for its exquisite sedge mattresses crafted from seagrass. Continuing through the renowned mandarin orange districts of Lai Vung and Tan Quy, we conclude the day's cycling with a brief bus transfer to our homestay in Binh Hoa Phuoc. The homestay offers traditional accommodation with clean and simple rooms featuring fans, mosquito nets, and private bathrooms. The cozy living room and indoor/outdoor dining options enhance the experience. Tonight, we savor a delectable dinner comprising local dishes prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients—an excellent opportunity to immerse ourselves in Vietnamese cuisine and culinary traditions. Our total cycling distance for today is approximately 50 kilometers.
Embarking on our final cycling adventure, we explore the picturesque Binh Hoa Phuoc Island. This tropical haven is adorned with lush fruit orchards, offering a captivating array of colors and flavors. Along the way, we pause to indulge in the local produce, savoring the essence of the island. Bid farewell to our bikes as we embark on a boat journey to Cai Be. From there, we drive to Ho Chi Minh City, the bustling metropolis and Vietnam's largest city. Today's cycling distance is approximately 30 kilometers.
After enjoying breakfast at our hotel in Ho Chi Minh City, the trip concludes. There are no scheduled activities for the day, allowing you the freedom to depart at your convenience. If your flight departs later in the day, our hotel provides luggage storage facilities. For those departing from Saigon's Tan Son Nhat International Airport (airport code SGN), located approximately 45 minutes to an hour from the hotel, a complimentary airport transfer can be arranged.
