Situated northeast of Angkor Thom and near the Jayatataka baray, this temple was a hub of significant administrative and ceremonial activities, employing a vast number of officials and servants. Our next stop is Neak Poan, a small temple located on an island in the center of the Jayatataka baray, a now-dry water reservoir of remarkable dimensions. We will continue our journey to Tasom, offering picturesque photo opportunities, particularly at its rear entrance adorned with captivating tree roots. To gain deeper insights into Cambodia's modern history, we will visit the Akira Landmine Museum. Driving to the rural outskirts, approximately 35km from the Angkor area, we will reach the splendid Banteay Srei Temple. Built in the 10th century and dedicated to Shiva, this architectural masterpiece showcases the birth of Khmer classical style and boasts intricate bas-relief work. The pink sandstone structure exhibits a breathtaking array of sculptures, lintels, pediments, and friezes. In the morning, at around 08:30 - 09:00 am, a private air-conditioned vehicle will pick you up from your hotel in Phnom Penh. Today, seize the opportunity to join a thrilling tour and immerse yourself in the wonders of the Cardamom Mountains. After an early breakfast, Wildlife Alliance Rangers and an English-speaking guide will accompany you on a captivating hike along the abandoned trails that once served as poaching and logging routes. Keep your eyes peeled for a chance to spot diverse wildlife in their natural habitat. During the half-day hike, a stop will be made at the Ranger Station, where confiscated snares, traps, and improvised hunting rifles are displayed, providing valuable insights into the vital conservation and protection efforts in the area. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your own pace. If you're an early riser, take advantage of the opportunity for a self-guided hike on the scenic trails surrounding the camp. Around 10:00hrs, board the boat back to Trapeang Rung and then transfer to Phnom Penh airport (no guide) for your departure flight. Alternatively, if you wish to extend your stay and experience a beach holiday, you can continue your journey to Koh Rong Island.
