Cruise on Tonle Sap Lake to witness its floating villages and unique ecosystem. Explore Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom, where you’ll experience traditional Cambodian life and ancient temples. Conclude your journey in Siem Reap, home to the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, where you’ll marvel at the grandeur of this UNESCO World Heritage site. This itinerary offers a comprehensive glimpse into Cambodia’s rich history, vibrant culture, and stunning landscapes.
Upon arrival at Po Chen Tong Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. Phnom Penh, the capital city, was once hailed as the most beautiful city in Indochina. Despite its recent troubled past, it still exudes significant charm.
Begin your city tour by exploring key attractions in Phnom Penh. The Royal Palace, home to the royal family, remains largely off-limits to the public, but you can visit the Silver Pagoda at the northern end of the palace grounds, the most revered temple in Cambodia. Additionally, we'll ascend a small hill to visit the iconic Wat Phnom, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding area.
The Phnom Penh sightseeing tour begins with a visit to the National Museum, which focuses solely on Khmer art and sculpture. The museum's collection predominantly features artifacts from the Angkor period (9th to 15th centuries), although some pieces date back to the 4th century.
Next, explore Psar Toul Tom Pong, also known as the "Russian Market," a bustling place where a wide variety of goods are available for purchase. Your tour continues with a visit to the Tuol Sleng Prison Museum and the infamous "Killing Fields" of Choeung Ek. These sites offer a profound understanding of the tragic Khmer Rouge era. Finally, venture out of the city to Tonle Bati to see the Ta Prohm and Prasat Yeay Peo Temples.
We set off early in the morning for Sambor Prei Kuk, an archaeological site renowned for its numerous pre-Angkorian temples. Though the road conditions are challenging, the breathtaking combination of ancient ruins amidst lush forest makes the journey rewarding. We then continue our drive to Siem Reap, passing through the picturesque Khmer countryside.
Siem Reap will serve as our base for exploring the renowned temples of the Angkor complex. This impressive site was the heart of the mighty Khmer Empire from 802 AD to 1350 AD and extends over 60 square miles through the dense jungle.
Today, we will dedicate the entire day to exploring the magnificent ancient ruins. Our journey starts at the South Gate of Angkor Thom, renowned for its grand stone faces. We will then visit the impressive Bayon Temple, the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the grand Angkor Wat, the largest and most complete temple in the complex.
Built in the 12th century, Angkor Wat spans approximately 210 hectares. As we wander through this architectural marvel, we will encounter its numerous galleries with columns, libraries, pavilions, courtyards, and reflective ponds that mirror the towering temple.
The temple of Ta Prohm, enveloped by jungle, offers a truly breathtaking sight. Enormous fig trees and massive vines intertwine with the stone foundations, creating a striking impression of nature reclaiming human creation.
We will explore this remarkable temple, along with several nearby sites such as Banteay Kdei, Sra Srong, Ta Keo, Thommanon, and Chau Say Tevado. In the afternoon, we will visit the grand circuit, including Preah Khan, Kravan, Neak Pean, Krol Ko, Ta Som, East Mebon, and Pre Rup Temples. Finally, we will hike up Phnom Bakheng Hill to witness a stunning sunset over these ancient sandstone monuments.
If time allows, we'll enjoy a brief cruise on Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia’s largest natural lake. This delightful excursion offers a glimpse into life on the water, as we glide past floating villages, encounter friendly children in small boats, and observe local fishermen in action. The journey concludes with your transfer to Siem Reap Airport for your departure.
