Embark on an incredible cycling adventure in captivating Cambodia, from vibrant cities to tranquil countryside. Experience long days, hot weather, and encounters with friendly locals, including the inspiring Community Development programs. Start in Siem Reap and finish in Phnom Penh, with options to extend to Battambang (7 days), Kampot (11 days), or even Saigon (16 days). Our leisurely-paced tours allow time for photos and no more than two consecutive cycling days. Tourism Union Indochina offers more than just cycling; we connect you with NGOs and local communities, providing firsthand insights and creating a positive impact. Join us for a transformative journey beyond tourism.
Arrival and Welcome Dinner Upon arrival, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant cosmopolitan atmosphere of Siem Reap, a city that has embraced tourism and its associated challenges. After airport pickup and check-in at the hotel, take some time to unwind or explore the city before joining us for a special welcome dinner. Our dining experience will be at Marum, one of Siem Reap's top restaurants and a part of Friends International, a social enterprise empowering marginalized youth through vocational training.
Sunrise Cycling at Angkor Temples Rise early at 4:30 am for an unforgettable sunrise cycling experience at Angkor Wat, a dream come true for many. As the first rays of light illuminate the temple, we embark on a captivating journey exploring other equally impressive temples throughout the morning. In the afternoon, we have the privilege of visiting our first NGO on this trip. Spend time with inspiring individuals who have dedicated their lives to making a positive impact. Listen to their stories and gain deeper insights into the real challenges faced by the country.
Journeying through wetlands and Tonle Sap River Embark on an unforgettable adventure through Cambodia's wetlands and navigate the scenic Tonle Sap River. As we delve deeper into remote areas, the road transitions into a single track, leading us into the rural and untouched landscapes of Cambodia. Along the way, we bid farewell to our support van and encounter villages that sustain themselves through sustainable fishing practices. To explore further into the wetlands, we arrange a thrilling long-tail boat ride, covering 16km with our bikes. Emerging on the other side, we continue our journey, traversing 18km of dirt road until we reach the charming town of Battambang. Battambang is a beloved highlight of our tour, known for its vibrant art cafes and the resurgence of young talent that has revived the local art scene after the devastating impact of the Khmer Rouge. The town's colonial-style streets hold hidden treasures, perfect for shopping and discovering unique bric-a-brac. For dinner, we indulge in a meal at another social enterprise restaurant, renowned for its culinary delights that rival those found in any Australian city.
Thrilling cycling, red dirt roads & Sustainable Cambodia After an energizing breakfast, we embark on an adventure along the dusty red back roads, passing by the magnificent Banan Temple. By early afternoon, we reach Pursat, where we settle into our hotel, complete with a refreshing swimming pool and an on-site massage spa. Here, we have the incredible opportunity to visit Sustainable Cambodia, an outstanding NGO. We'll receive a comprehensive presentation by the organization's executives, followed by a guided tour of their facilities. Witness firsthand the positive impact created by this remarkable NGO and be inspired by the tangible difference made by dedicated individuals.
Cycling into Phnom Penh, riverside villages & Tonle Sap Today, we embark on a scenic cycling journey of 75km, beginning 75km outside Phnom Penh and concluding at the doorstep of our hotel. This route leads us through picturesque riverside villages, where communities thrive along the Tonle Sap lake. Along the way, we'll enjoy delightful coffee breaks, capture countless photo opportunities, and experience a few ferry crossings. The majority of the route consists of quiet back streets with minimal traffic. As an option, we offer a transfer via van for the final 2km within the heart of the city. For dinner, we indulge in a feast of tarantulas and silk works at the renowned Romdeng restaurant, a social enterprise establishment by the Friends International team.
Friends International, S-21 Genocide Museum & Khmer BBQ We kick off the day by meeting the extraordinary individuals at Friends International and gaining insight into their impactful community work and global strategies. This offers a profound understanding of the genuine local challenges faced by everyday heroes. From there, we explore the vibrant Russian market and continue to Tuol Sleng, also known as the S-21 Genocide Museum. This poignant chapter of Cambodian history under the Khmer Rouge regime is emotionally challenging but highly recommended. In the afternoon, you have free time to reflect on the day's experiences before we gather again for a delicious Khmer BBQ dinner.
Time to bid farewell As all good things must come to an end, this is the departure day for those on the 7-day tour.
