Chi Lang Pass holds significant historical importance in Vietnamese history, marked by numerous victories against Chinese invasions spanning centuries, reaching as far back as 981 AD. Recognized as Vietnam’s formidable citadel and bastion, this site provides an hour for exploration around the Quy Mon Quan Gate, also known as "The Gate of Monsters," a name derived from the numerous invading forces that historically traversed the pass, only to be repelled by resilient Vietnamese defenders.

After a satisfying lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, continue the expedition through the pass, with stops to visit Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe, a crucial historical site associated with The Battle of Dong Khe during the First Indochina War. This battle, which unfolded in September and October 1950, marked the inaugural conflict of the Indochina Wars and concluded with a decisive victory for the Viet Minh.

In the evening, relish dinner and prepare for an overnight stay in a local homestay managed by a Nung family.

This leg of the adventure offers another opportunity to engage with the local Nung people residing in the village of Phuoc Sen. This mountainous village is renowned for its traditional blacksmithing, producing essential farming tools that play a vital role in the lifestyle evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields.

Nestled within these remarkable landscapes is the awe-inspiring Ban Gioc Waterfall, stretching over 300 meters, divided evenly between Vietnam and China. Take some time to absorb the incredible atmosphere surrounding the falls, providing an excellent backdrop for captivating photography.

After the waterfall experience, proceed to Nguom Ngao Cave for a distinct yet equally impressive natural wonder. This cave extends 2,144 meters underground, adorned with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites.

Here, you'll spend the night in a homestay crafted in traditional Tay fashion, owned and operated by a local Tay family.
