Upon arriving in Bangkok, you'll be greeted and taken to your hotel. Later today, gather with your tour leader or local guide for a welcome drink and an orientation session.
This morning, we explore the Grand Palace and the revered Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaeo). Our journey continues to the impressive 46-meter reclining Buddha at Wat Pho, Bangkok's oldest and largest temple. We then experience a glimpse of Bangkok's historical river life with a boat excursion along the Chao Phraya River. In the afternoon, we proceed to Bangkok's Hualamphong railway station for our overnight journey to Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai is renowned as Thailand’s cultural hub, boasting over 100 monasteries, vibrant shopping spots, and delightful dining options. We begin by orienting ourselves with a visit to Doi Suthep monastery, revered as one of Thailand’s tranquil and picturesque locations. This serene monastery is a highlight of northern Thailand, revered as one of the nation’s holiest sites. Later tonight, delve into the bustling night market along Chang Khlan Road for a memorable exploration.
Today, we journey to Tha Ton situated in the Golden Triangle, an area close to the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar (Burma). From here, we embark on a long tail boat journey along the Mae Kok River towards Chiang Rai, where we cruise past verdant rice fields and picturesque rural landscapes. Arriving late evening, we check into our hotel and explore the vibrant night market.
We head towards the eastern direction, reaching the border with Thailand, and cross the Mekong River into tranquil Laos. Our journey continues as we embark on speedboats for a 2.5-hour cruise along the Mekong, making a stop at a local minority village along the way. We soak in the breathtaking river landscapes until we arrive in Pakbeng in the late afternoon.
Following a relaxed breakfast, we embark on a leisurely journey aboard a slow boat bound for Luang Prabang, a full-day excursion. Along the way, we traverse past steep cliffs cloaked in jungle foliage and make a stop at the renowned 'Cave of a Thousand Buddhas'. As we glide along the river, soaking in the scenery, we eventually arrive in the captivating city of Luang Prabang.
Luang Prabang stands out as Laos’s most exquisite and captivating town. Today, immerse yourself in a guided stroll along cobblestone streets to explore the Pho Si Market and visit some of the town’s most splendid temples. We will also tour a village renowned for textile weaving and papermaking. As the sun begins to set, ascend the nearby Mount Phu Si for breathtaking views overlooking the town and river.
Start your day early to witness one of Asia’s remarkable spectacles: hundreds of Buddhist monks clad in robes gathering morning alms. Afterward, we venture to the stunning Kuang Si Falls, pausing en route at a Hmong village to gain insight into one of Laos’s prominent ethnic groups. In the evening, engage in a delightful cooking class to hone your culinary skills and savor the delicious dishes you prepare.
Leave charming Luang Prabang behind as we take a flight to Vientiane, followed by a scenic drive to Vang Vieng. Situated amidst impressive limestone mountains and nestled beside the Nam Song River, this quaint town evokes a picturesque charm reminiscent of traditional Asia. We'll venture to explore a nearby cave and unwind at our riverside lodgings.
This morning is dedicated to leisurely enjoying the relaxed ambiance of Vang Vieng, where we leisurely tube down the Nam Song River. In the afternoon, we return to Vientiane, preparing for tomorrow's adventures.
Today, we visit the key attractions of the capital, starting with Wat Sisaket, Vientiane's oldest and most exquisite temple. We also tour Haw Pha Kaew, a former royal temple that has been converted into a museum. Our journey continues with a visit to Pha That Luang, Laos's paramount national monument, symbolizing both the monarchy and Buddhism. Finally, we explore the Patuxai Monument, reminiscent of Paris's Arc de Triomphe. In the evening, we delight in watching the sunset along the banks of the Mekong River.
Today involves a full-day journey heading east from Vientiane, passing through rugged limestone mountains and tranquil countryside villages. By late afternoon, we arrive and settle into our lodge in the frontier border town of Lak Sao.
Start your day early with a visit to the lively morning market, where you can discover unique forest creatures and fruits. We then cross into Vietnam, descending through the wooded Annamite Mountains to Kim Lien village, the birthplace of Ho Chi Minh. Although significant to the Vietnamese, this town sees few foreign visitors. By late afternoon, we reach Vinh.
This morning, depart early for a journey along Highway 1 towards Hanoi. Traverse a less frequented area adorned with lush fields and rugged limestone cliffs. Pause at the stunning Tam Coc, renowned from the film ‘Indochine’, before continuing to Hanoi, Vietnam’s elegant capital city.
Hanoi stands as one of Southeast Asia's most charming and elegant cities. Our exploration begins with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, followed by Ho Chi Minh's modest stilt house where he once governed North Vietnam. We also admire the Presidential Palace, the One Pillar Pagoda, and Hanoi's ancient Temple of Literature. We'll tour the notorious 'Hanoi Hilton', formerly the central prison. The day concludes with a stroll through the captivating Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake area.
