You will be taken to Heho Airport for your flight to Mandalay. Situated on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River, Mandalay is known as a former royal capital in northern Myanmar. At the heart of the city, encircled by a canal, lies Mandalay Palace, which served as the last royal residence of the Burmese monarchy. Once you arrive in Mandalay, a guide will be there to escort you to the town. Along the way, stop by Amarapura, an ancient capital established based on astrological advice. Then, visit the U Bein Bridge, which stretches across Taungthaman Lake near Amarapura. Built around 1850, this 1.2-kilometer bridge is renowned as the oldest and longest teakwood bridge in the world. During the dry season, it appears unusually high, mostly crossing grasslands, while in the rainy season, the area floods, causing water to gently touch the wooden planks. Your Mandalay tour will include Shwenandaw Monastery, famous for its intricate wood carvings; Atumashi Monastery; and Kuthodaw Pagoda, known for containing the world's largest book. Finally, you will visit Mandalay Hill at sunset for a stunning panoramic view of the city. Overnight in Mandalay.
Explore the most sacred site in Mandalay, the Mahamuni Pagoda, which houses Myanmar’s most venerated Buddha image. This 4-meter-tall seated Buddha has received so much gold leaf from worshippers over the years that its surface has taken on a distinctive lumpy appearance. Step inside the temple for an up-close view of the Mahamuni Buddha, then take some time to stroll around the temple grounds, absorbing the serene atmosphere. Following your visit to the temple, head to Zegyo Market, the oldest and largest market in Mandalay. Here, you can shop for local goods before exploring workshops specializing in wood carving, gold leaf production, and tapestry making. At the conclusion of your tour, you will be transferred to Mandalay International Airport for your onward or return flight. While this marks the end of your exploration of some of Myanmar’s most iconic and intriguing attractions, we hope the memories you’ve created in this remarkable country will remain with you forever.
