Upon arrival in Chiang Rai, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your chosen hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is yours to spend at your leisure. You may choose to explore the historic old town, which traces its roots back to the reign of King Mangrai in the 13th century, or take a stroll through the lively night bazaar to experience the vibrant atmosphere of this charming region. Proceed to the city center to visit the famous King Mangrai Monument. From there, continue to the Hilltribe Museum and Education Centre, where you will gain insight into the numerous hill tribes that have inhabited the surrounding highlands for centuries, learning how they have adapted to the pressures of globalization. Next, head to the Mae Chan district to explore remote villages of the Yao and Akha hill tribes, immersing yourself in their unique way of life. The journey then takes you to Mae Sai, a bustling border town with a vibrant market. Following this, venture into the heart of the legendary Golden Triangle, where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. Once known for its widespread opium production, this region offers a glimpse into its fascinating history. After enjoying lunch, travel to Chiang Saen to visit Wat Phra That Chom Kitti, perched on a hilltop and accessible by a 350-step staircase. Embarking on a journey to Chiang Mai. On the way, stop at the stunning Wat Rong Khun, also known as the White Temple, located just outside of Chiang Rai. This architectural marvel, constructed in the 1990s, is known for its all-white façade, adorned with intricate designs and mirrored glass that reflect light, making it one of Thailand’s most visually striking temples. Upon arriving in Chiang Mai, you'll visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of the most sacred temples in the country. Located atop a mountain, this revered site offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city below. To reach the temple, you can either climb a 309-step naga staircase or take a cable car for a more leisurely ascent. Afterward, head to the riverfront for a scenic cruise along the Ping River. Enjoy the relaxing ride, followed by a visit to a local farm where you’ll be treated to a tasty khao soi noodle curry and a captivating traditional dance performance. Finish the day with a stroll through the local flower and produce market before returning to your hotel. The cable car is included in the tour.
After lunch, delve into the rich history of this ancient city. Chiang Mai’s old town is still partially encircled by the remnants of its former defensive walls and a moat. Your exploration begins with a visit to Wat Suan Dok, where you'll be captivated by its towering 48-meter Sri Lankan-style chedi, which stands guard over the Royal Cemetery. Next, head to Wat Phra Sing, a beautiful temple complex with over 60 buildings located in the old town. Then, visit Wat Chedi Luang, a striking 14th-century temple in the heart of the city.
Begin your final day in Chiang Mai with a delightful breakfast, followed by checking out of your chosen hotel. Breakfast is included.
