Hanoi, Ha Giang, Yen Minh, Dong Van
Our local team will collect you from your hotel in downtown Hanoi and transport you to Ha Giang city, commencing an entire day of travel along National Road #2 through Viet Tri and Tuyen Quang to reach Ha Giang province. We'll make several stops for photo opportunities, allowing you to capture the breathtaking landscapes of palm forests, tea plantations, and picturesque valleys as we pass through Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang. A delightful lunch awaits you at a local restaurant on the way. By approximately 3 pm, we'll reach Ha Giang city, where you'll check in at a local guesthouse for an overnight stay.
Embarking on our journey this morning, we pedal out of town, covering the initial 25km on a relatively even path that meanders through the picturesque terrain adorned with terraced rice paddy fields. Progressing through villages inhabited by various ethnic minorities, our cycling route transitions into a 25km ascent along serpentine roads, leading us into the expansive limestone mountain range characterized by towering rock formations. The climb, totaling 800m, takes us towards the mountain pass known as "Heaven Gate 1."
As we traverse mountainous villages occasionally veiled in clouds, we'll be warmly welcomed by the local communities. Reaching the pass, we'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views, including the renowned spectacle of the Tam Son valley featuring the 'Twin Hills.' In the distance, we can catch a glimpse of Quan Ba town, our final destination, nestled in its scenic surroundings. The concluding stretch involves a mostly downhill ride covering the last 15km into Quan Ba. We'll spend the night at a hotel in Quan Ba.
Today, we aim to savor every moment as our enchanting surroundings present a plethora of opportunities for capturing stunning photographs. The rocky limestone and karst topography, characterized by its diversity and beauty, unfolds before us. The cycling route unfolds with an initial uphill stretch covering a few kilometers, followed by a descent of approximately 10km. The subsequent 10km offers relatively flat terrain, introducing a mix of challenges with ascents and descents, reaching an altitude of 1,025m. The final segment involves a descent spanning the last 15km into Yen Minh. Along the way, we'll encounter the distinctive homes of the local hill tribes, and this region is also home to Chinese communities. Our night will be spent at a hotel in Yen Minh.
We continue our cycling journey towards Dong Van. While today's ride is relatively short, the ascents become more challenging and offer a spectacular ascent to higher altitudes. Cycling through the black volcanic rock, you'll witness the resilience of various hill tribes making a living in this seemingly infertile terrain. The vibrant traditional attire of these communities adds a colorful contrast to the rugged mountains. As you navigate through the vast gorges and catch glimpses of the breathtaking mountainous landscapes, the remarkable views serve as a rewarding culmination of your cycling efforts. Our night will be spent at a hotel in Dong Van.
Embarking on today's journey, you are in for a captivating ride through one of the most picturesque 10km stretches in northern Vietnam. Departing from the town, you initially descend gently, but as you approach the subsequent ascent, a visual delight awaits. To your right, the valley floor descends almost in perfect harmony with your climb. The expansive gorges that unfold ahead beckon towards the untamed frontier and China's Yunnan Province. Take a moment to pause at Ma Pi Leng Pass, allowing for a brief rest and capturing the breathtaking scenery in photographs. Continue your cycling descent towards Meo Vac, where we'll spend the night at a local hotel.
If today happens to be Sunday, seize the opportunity to explore one of Vietnam's most captivating markets, exclusively open on Sunday mornings in Meo Vac town. In case it's not Sunday, set forth towards Ha Giang. Brace yourself for an exhilarating journey, predominantly downhill. After ascending for approximately 5km, enjoy a smooth descent covering around 30km on a well-maintained road. Experience gentle undulations through serene villages until reaching Yen Minh town, where a delightful lunch awaits. Following this, you'll be picked up and transferred back to Ha Giang city for an overnight stay at a local hotel.
Following a hearty breakfast, you'll be transported back to Hanoi.
