Embark on a captivating 12-day journey through Cambodia’s most iconic destinations. Start your adventure in Siem Reap, where you’ll explore the ancient temples of Angkor Wat and the intricately carved Banteay Srei. Continue to the charming city of Battambang, known for its colonial architecture and cultural heritage. Discover the vibrant capital, Phnom Penh, with its rich history and lively markets. Finally, unwind on the pristine beaches of Koh Rong, where crystal-clear waters and stunning sunsets await, offering a perfect blend of cultural exploration and tropical relaxation.
Upon arriving in Siem Reap, you’ll be transferred to your hotel (check-in available from 14:00). The rest of the day is yours to relax after your journey or begin exploring the city on your own.
Today, you'll explore the Roluos temple group, dating back to the 9th century, which includes the Preah Ko, Bakong, and Lolei temples. Afterward, visit the beautifully preserved and intricately adorned temples of Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre.
Angkor Wat is the world's largest religious monument, nestled deep within the tropical jungle. This vast temple complex served as the heart of Khmer civilization from the 9th to the 15th century. At its peak, it was home to a population of one million, surpassing any European city of that era. Your day begins with a visit to the south gate of Angkor Thom, where you'll explore the renowned Bayon complex, the Terrace of the Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King, and Baphuon Temple. In the afternoon, you'll discover the awe-inspiring Angkor Wat, a “wonder of the world” constructed over 40 years by countless builders and artisans under the direction of the great Khmer king, Suryavarman. The day concludes with a visit to Pre Rup Temple, offering a breathtaking and serene sunset over Angkor, before returning to the hotel with a relaxing stop for a foot massage.
Today, you'll explore the temples of Prasat Kravan, Srah Srang, Banteay Kdei, and the famous Ta Prohm. Afterwards, enjoy a boat excursion on Tonle Sap Lake, where you'll visit the floating villages. This lake is among the most fish-abundant waters in the world, and over the centuries, locals have adapted to the changing water levels brought on by the monsoon rains and the Mekong River. On the return journey, you'll make a stop at Wat Athovea.
Today, you'll discover traditional Cambodian crafts, including the making of the iconic fish paste, "Prahoc." Accompanied by your guide, you'll explore Battambang and also have some free time to venture out on your own. In the afternoon, head to Phnom Sampeau to visit the Killing Caves. As evening falls, witness the incredible sight of thousands of bats emerging before returning to Battambang.
This morning, you'll experience a ride on the unique "bamboo train." Afterward, you'll depart from Battambang and journey to the former capital, Oudong. A traditional ox cart will take you on a scenic ride through rice fields and past rural farms. Climb the steps to the summit of Oudong Mountain, where you'll be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape. Your guide will share fascinating insights about the area's landscape, architecture, and culture. In the afternoon, you'll continue on to Phnom Penh, with a stop in Koh Chen, also known as the "Silver Village" for its skilled silver artisans. The capital is just a short drive from here.
Your morning begins with a visit to the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, followed by a stop at Wat Phnom. Next, you'll explore the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum, which was once a school and later a prison during the Pol Pot regime, offering a poignant glimpse into Cambodia's history under the Khmer Rouge. The day concludes with a peaceful one-hour boat ride on the Mekong River as the sun sets.
Over the next few days, you'll have the opportunity to unwind and reflect on the experiences from your journey.
