Embark on a captivating 5-day tour through Thailand’s rich cultural heritage, starting in the vibrant city of Bangkok. Discover the ancient ruins of Ayutthaya, explore the historical treasures of Kamphaeng Phet, and visit the charming town of Lampang. Experience the beauty of Chiang Mai and Lamphun, and delve into the history of Sukhothai with its stunning temples. Finally, uncover the secrets of Lopburi, known for its unique monkey inhabitants. This journey promises an unforgettable blend of history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
After an early pick-up from the designated meeting point in Bangkok, you'll journey to Ayutthaya, the former capital, to explore the remnants of this once-thriving island city, largely devastated by an invading army 250 years ago. The evocative ruins, such as Wat Yai Chaimongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng, and Wat Mahathat—where tree roots have enveloped a Buddha's head—whisper tales of its glorious past. Enjoy a scenic cruise around the island on a traditional longtail boat, taking in the historical sights from a new angle. Following lunch at a local restaurant, proceed to Kamphaeng Phet to check in at your hotel. You'll have the rest of the afternoon free to relax at your leisure. Overnight stay in Kamphaeng Phet on your chosen meal plan.
Upon arrival, you'll visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, a significant Lanna-style temple situated on a hillside and enclosed by walls. Ascend the naga staircase to explore the complex, which features seven structures and a sacred tree. Take in the sight of the bronze Buddha statue housed in the ordination hall and the Buddha relic within the golden chedi. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, you'll head to Chiang Mai, affectionately known as the ‘Rose of the North.’ Upon arrival, check in and spend the rest of the day at your leisure. You can choose to wander the city at your own pace or unwind with a traditional Thai massage (not included). In the evening, visit the lively night bazaar for a leisurely stroll, or consider experiencing a khantoke dinner, which includes a traditional northern Thai feast accompanied by cultural performances (optional, not included).
Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, one of Thailand's most cherished temples, perched atop a mountain offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city. To access the temple, you can either ascend the 309-step naga staircase or take the included cable car. After this spiritual visit, head to the renowned San Kamphaeng Road, a 10-kilometer stretch lined with shops showcasing locally crafted goods, including pottery, silverware, lacquerware, handmade saa paper, sculptures, jewelry, wood carvings, and silk products. In some shops, you can even observe artisans at their craft. Look out for the high-quality celadon pottery and silver items. After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, return to the hotel and enjoy a leisurely afternoon.
Say goodbye to Chiang Mai and travel to Lamphun, where you’ll find one of the north's most significant temples, the ancient Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, which is over a thousand years old. Explore the temple grounds, where you can admire beautiful Buddha statues and impressive stupas, including a 46-meter-tall golden chedi in Lanna style and a 21-meter-tall Haripunchai-style chedi. Continue your journey south to the Sukhothai Historical Park, which encompasses the ruins of Siam's first capital. Founded in the 13th century, Sukhothai translates to "Dawn of Happiness" and marks the start of a golden era for Thai culture under King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, who is credited with developing the Thai alphabet. The historical park features nearly 200 ruins, including many temples, and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with areas both within and outside its walls and moat.
Leave Sukhothai and make your way to Lopburi, a historic city renowned for its population of macaques that wander the streets like they own the place. Explore the remnants of the ancient Khmer temple, Phra Prang Sam Yot, along with the nearby Brahman shrine known as San Phra Kan, often referred to as the "Monkey Temple." Enjoy a delightful lunch at a local restaurant during your journey, then proceed to Bangkok, where you'll be dropped off in the city center.
