Day 7 Saigon City Tour – Cu Chi Tunnels

Embark on our journey by visiting the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral, the historical Central Post Office, and then proceed to explore the Reunification Palace and the poignant War Remnants Museum. In the afternoon, venture to the Cu Chi Tunnels, situated 60km from HCMC. This locale has become a popular destination for both Vietnamese and international visitors, with its network of over 200km of tunnels attaining legendary status for their crucial role in the war. During their prime, these tunnels operated as underground cities, featuring trap doors, specially designed living spaces, storage facilities, weapons factories, field hospitals, command centers, and kitchens.

Today, the landscape hosts ducks and water buffalos peacefully coexisting along the rivers. However, the tranquil rural scenery conceals a violent history, showcasing evidence of the destruction, damage, and defoliation caused by bombing and mines. It's challenging for visitors to fathom the fierce battles that unfolded here during the 1960s when Cu Chi was designated a Free Target Zone.

Embark on the tour in the morning, where, before entering the tunnels, visitors can watch a brief introductory video illustrating their construction. Spend the following hour exploring the tunnels, and afterward, indulge in tea and cassava, the guerrilla's sustenance during the war. Conclude the day by returning to Saigon.

Embark on a sampan and cruise along the river, marveling at the scenic beauty of the Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix, and Tortoise islands. Pause at Unicorn Island, where you can take a leisurely stroll along country lanes, explore orchards, relish tropical fruits, and enjoy local folk songs performed by talented locals.

Visit a fruit plantation, glide through Thoi Son canal on a hand-rowed sampan, and immerse yourself in the picturesque countryside. Explore a family business, visit a honeybee farm, and delight in a workshop showcasing the crafting of honey tea and coconut candy. Savor lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a break.
