✈️🚢 How to Get to and from the Con Dao Archipelago
Whether you’re flying in for a weekend retreat or arriving by sea for a more scenic route, getting to Con Dao Islands is easier than ever before — though a bit of planning goes a long way!
🛩️ By Air: Fastest & Most Convenient
Con Son Airport (VCS) is the main gateway to the islands and is located about 15km northeast of Con Son Town. Flights are operated exclusively by VASCO, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, using small propeller aircraft.
🔄 Flight Tips:
Official airline websites (like vietnamairlines.com) may show no availability even when flights are not full.
Pro tip: Contact a travel agent in Ho Chi Minh City or your local area – many agencies block-book tickets in advance. Be prepared for slightly higher fares, but more flexibility.
Major hotels on the island provide airport shuttle transfers, often timed with incoming flights. Even if you’re not staying at one, you can usually join a shuttle for a small fee.
🛫 Flight duration:
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) ➝ Con Dao: ~1 hour (up to 10 flights daily)
Can Tho (VCA) ➝ Con Dao: ~50 minutes (2 flights daily)
✈️ New update (2025): Direct charter services are now occasionally available from Da Nang and Hanoi during high season. Check with premium tour providers for availability.
⛴️ By Ferry: Scenic & Budget-Friendly
Ferries offer a beautiful coastal alternative to flying — ideal for travelers looking to experience Vietnam’s seascape up close. In recent years, faster vessels have replaced the old slow boats, significantly improving travel time.
🚤 Ferry Operators:
Phu Quoc Express runs high-speed catamarans with air-conditioned cabins and spacious decks.
