✈️🚢 How to Get to and from the Con Dao Archipelago

Whether you’re flying in for a weekend retreat or arriving by sea for a more scenic route, getting to Con Dao Islands is easier than ever before — though a bit of planning goes a long way!

🛩️ By Air: Fastest & Most Convenient

Con Son Airport (VCS) is the main gateway to the islands and is located about 15km northeast of Con Son Town. Flights are operated exclusively by VASCO, a subsidiary of Vietnam Airlines, using small propeller aircraft.

🔄 Flight Tips:

  • Official airline websites (like vietnamairlines.com) may show no availability even when flights are not full.

  • Pro tip: Contact a travel agent in Ho Chi Minh City or your local area – many agencies block-book tickets in advance. Be prepared for slightly higher fares, but more flexibility.

  • Major hotels on the island provide airport shuttle transfers, often timed with incoming flights. Even if you’re not staying at one, you can usually join a shuttle for a small fee.

🛫 Flight duration:

  • Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) ➝ Con Dao: ~1 hour (up to 10 flights daily)

  • Can Tho (VCA) ➝ Con Dao: ~50 minutes (2 flights daily)

✈️ New update (2025): Direct charter services are now occasionally available from Da Nang and Hanoi during high season. Check with premium tour providers for availability.

⛴️ By Ferry: Scenic & Budget-Friendly

Ferries offer a beautiful coastal alternative to flying — ideal for travelers looking to experience Vietnam’s seascape up close. In recent years, faster vessels have replaced the old slow boats, significantly improving travel time.

🚤 Ferry Operators:

Phu Quoc Express runs high-speed catamarans with air-conditioned cabins and spacious decks.

  • Vung Tau → Con Dao
    ⏱️ ~3 hours 15 minutes
    🕗 Departure: 8:00 AM
    ⛴️ Return: 1:30 PM daily
📍 Great option if you’re traveling from southern coastal areas.

  • Tran De (Soc Trang) → Con Dao
    ⏱️ ~2 hours
    🕖 Departure: 7:00 AM
🔁 Return: 12:00 PM the next day (less frequent service)

🌊 Important Notes:

  • Services may be disrupted during the typhoon season (June–November).

  • Weekend fares are often higher due to increased demand — book early!

🚐 Transfer Services on the Island

Once you arrive at the port or airport:

  • Most resorts and hotels offer pick-up/drop-off services 🚐

  • Taxis and xe ôm (motorbike taxis) are available but limited — booking in advance is recommended
