Overview

Located just north of the Uncle Ho statue along the picturesque river promenade, Ong Pagoda is a vibrant and historic site built in the late 19th century by the affluent Chinese merchant Huynh An Thai. The pagoda is a beautiful example of Chinese-style architecture and offers visitors a glimpse into the cultural fusion that defines Can Tho.

Key Features

Upon entering the Ong Pagoda, visitors are greeted by the central figure of Quan Cong, who stands at the altar. Quan Cong is depicted with a distinctive red face and colorful Rio Carnival-inspired headgear, making for a striking visual.

To the left of Quan Cong is Than Tai, the deity revered by many locals. On the first day of every month, numerous families visit the pagoda to pray for wealth and prosperity. To the right of Quan Cong, you’ll find a statue of Thien Hau, the protector of sailors, a deity especially important for those who travel by water in the Mekong Delta.

Additionally, there is a small chamber dedicated to Quan Am, the goddess of mercy, to the left of the main hall.
