Itinerary

Day 1Join the Excursion in Ho Chi Minh City

Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Saigon, where our Vietnamese adventure begins. As Vietnam's largest and most vibrant city, Saigon is a captivating blend of tradition and modernity, where ancient pagodas and bustling markets coexist with the dynamic energy of the country's emerging entrepreneurial spirit. Upon arrival, make your way to the hotel, and if time permits, take a leisurely stroll to the nearby reunification palace, a mere 15-minute walk away. In the evening, our group leader will gather everyone in the hotel reception at 6pm for a warm welcome and an introductory meeting. Feel free to join the group for a delightful dinner experience if you wish. There are no scheduled activities for the rest of the day, allowing you the flexibility to arrive at your convenience. If you would like a complimentary airport transfer, please plan to arrive at Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), located approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour away. In case you miss the welcome meeting, our group leader will ensure that you receive all essential information as soon as you catch up. Indulge in the variety of dining options available within a short walking distance from our centrally located hotel.

Day 2 Morning visit to Cu Chi Tunnels. Explore Old Saigon, and discover 'Secret Weapons Bunker'

Embark on a journey to the Cu Chi Tunnels. Delve into the historical depths of Old Saigon and unveil the enigmatic 'Secret Weapons Bunker'. Following a satisfying breakfast, set off to visit the infamous Cu Chi tunnels. Originally crafted by the Vietnamese during their struggle against the French in colonial times, these tunnels expanded significantly and gained infamy during the Vietnam War, serving as an underground command center for 10,000 Viet Cong troops. Exploring Cu Chi offers a glimpse into the challenging conditions endured by both the Vietnamese and their American adversaries. However, be prepared for the narrow and somewhat claustrophobic tunnels. Kindly note that transportation to and from Cu Chi will be shared with other tourists. In the afternoon, a different side of Ho Chi Minh City awaits as we venture away from the prominent attractions to wander through the hidden back alleys of Old Saigon. Riding in cyclos, traditional cycle carriages with front seats, we veer off the main thoroughfare and immerse ourselves in the labyrinthine streets of District 3. Along the way, we pass by humble shopfronts, bustling local markets offering a vibrant array of fruits and bootleg DVDs, as well as residences, churches, and schools tightly packed within narrow buildings lining the alleys. This captivating interconnected community, just a stone's throw from the city center, stands in stark contrast to the modern structures and tourist crowds. We pause at a local stall to savor a traditional Vietnamese coffee, sweetened with condensed milk, and also indulge in 'Banh Mi' - a Vietnamese adaptation of the iconic French baguette, freshly baked and filled with a blend of traditional and aromatic ingredients. The walking excursion culminates at the discreet 'secret weapons' bunker. Nestled within a tranquil neighborhood, a modest 'tube house' conceals a trap door in its floor, leading to a basement brimming with rifles, grenades, and ammunition. This bunker played a pivotal role in the TET Offensive of 1968, serving as the launch base for the Viet Cong's "Team 5", and its location remained undisclosed until after the war's conclusion. We have ample time to explore the house and bunker, adorned with decommissioned weapons, photographs, news clippings, and mementos from the wartime era.

Day 3 Journey to the Mekong Delta and Enchanting Cycle Ride

Embark on a scenic drive southward from the city, venturing into the enchanting realm of the Mekong Delta. Arriving at our destination, we board a boat that will transport us to the starting point of our captivating cycle ride. Pedaling along the flat and picturesque Cai Thai village path, spanning approximately 10-12 km, we are treated to uninterrupted vistas of the sprawling delta, as we meander alongside its numerous tributaries. The route offers ample shade, providing respite from the humidity (the boat is available to collect cyclists at various stops if needed). During our journey, we have the opportunity to visit Mrs. Nani's home, where she will graciously demonstrate the traditional method of rice paper making. Additionally, we stop by the abode of Mr. and Mrs. Chin, who warmly serve us refreshing treats, including the renowned 'Banh Tieu' (a traditional doughnut). Returning to the boat, we indulge in a delectable lunch served on board as we cruise along the delta, immersing ourselves in the vibrant atmosphere of the small floating markets. This unique trading hub comprises a vast network of rivers and islands, interweaving agricultural villages, verdant paddy fields, and enchanting mangrove swamps. After this enriching experience, we continue our journey to Can Tho, our next destination.

Day 4 Morning Exploration of Cai Rang Floating Market and Ba Lang Canal, followed by Drive to Chau Doc

Prepare for a vibrant and captivating morning as we embark on a boat cruise to the renowned Cai Rang floating market, the largest in the Mekong Delta. Immerse yourself in a kaleidoscope of colors as we paddle through the bustling market, where friendly local traders eagerly catch your attention. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to board a traditional boat, engage with the traders, and perhaps purchase a succulent pineapple from one of the floating vendors. Continuing our journey, we make a stop at the captivating Binh Thuy ancient house. This remarkable architectural gem combines elements of classical design with influences from French, Chinese, and local Vietnamese artisans. Dating back to the late 19th century, the house is adorned with a fascinating collection of antiques and memorabilia, transporting you to a bygone era. After our visit, we drive to Chau Doc, a bustling border town situated between Vietnam and Cambodia. Here, we embark on another boat cruise, venturing to the Chau Giang fish farm, where fish are cultivated in cages beneath floating houses. Take the opportunity to explore the Cham village before returning to our hotel for a restful night.

Day 5 Morning Speedboat to Phnom Penh

Embark on an exciting journey as we drive to the jetty in Chau Doc this morning and board an early speedboat bound for Phnom Penh. This thrilling four-and-a-half-hour river expedition carries us along the Hau Giang River, leading us into neighboring Cambodia. Nestled on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, Phnom Penh has served as the capital since the 1440s. Today, it stands as a vibrant city adorned with charming French colonial architecture, bustling markets, captivating art galleries, ornate temples, and enlightening museums. In the evening, we gather for a delightful dinner at a local restaurant in Phnom Penh (included).

Day 6 Market Bartering, Cooking Lesson, and School Visit in Phnom Penh

Our first morning in Cambodia offers an immersive cultural experience. We embark on a visit to the vibrant local market, where we engage in bartering and select fresh ingredients to be used in a traditional Khmer meal. Later, we gather at the esteemed La Rose restaurant, renowned for its exquisite Khmer cuisine, where we, as a group, will prepare and savor the flavors of Cambodia. In the afternoon, we have the privilege of meeting local children at a nearby school, creating a meaningful opportunity to learn some Khmer language while imparting English language skills to the young learners. We may also organize engaging activities, such as friendly football matches or traditional Cambodian board games, fostering connections between the children from different backgrounds. Our accommodation for the night is in Phnom Penh, Cambodia's historic capital, nestled at the intersection of the Sap, Mekong, and Bassac Rivers. This city, with its amalgamation of ancient and colonial influences, serves as a testament to Cambodia's rich past. From the majestic Royal Palace and the National Museum showcasing the country's cultural heritage to the haunting Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, which bear witness to the atrocities of the Khmer Rouge regime, Phnom Penh encapsulates a diverse tapestry of history and resilience.

Day 7 Journey to Siem Reap and Afternoon Orientation Tour

We embark on a comfortable private bus as we make our way north to the mystical jungle temples of Siem Reap. Serving as the contemporary gateway to the ancient wonders of Angkor, Siem Reap offers more than just temple exploration. What was once a modest village when Angkor was rediscovered by the French in the 19th century has now evolved into a bustling town catering to diverse types of tourists and budgets. Taking an evening stroll along its organized streets reveals a vibrant food scene, with an array of restaurants and street stalls to satisfy every palate. Additionally, numerous spas await, offering traditional Khmer massages for a rejuvenating experience. The night market presents a fantastic opportunity to engage in lively bargaining for unique finds. And, of course, there's the famous 'Pub Street'—a lively pedestrianized area adorned with neon lights, street performers, bustling bars, and diverse dining establishments. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, most visitors find it worthwhile to immerse themselves in the energetic ambiance of Siem Reap.

Day 8 Full-Day Excursion to Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat

Embarking on a journey reminiscent of Lara Croft's adventures, we delve into the mystical realm of the Angkor Wat temples in Siem Reap. Spanning a remarkable period of 600 years, from the 9th to the 15th centuries, these temples are a testament to ancient architectural mastery. Traveling in local tuk-tuks, we explore two iconic temple sites: Angkor Thom and Angkor Wat. The fortified city of Angkor Thom, originally constructed at the end of the 12th century, impresses with its imposing walls, grand gates, and a moat teeming with crocodiles. Our next stop takes us to the awe-inspiring beauty of Angkor Wat, the crown jewel among Siem Reap's jungle temples. Please be aware that starting from January 1st, 2020, the third tier of the Bayon Temple, the magnificent centerpiece of the ancient city of Angkor Thom, will be closed for extensive restoration until 2022. While the up-close view of the large stone faces will not be possible, the lower two tiers will remain accessible, allowing us to admire the intricate bas-reliefs and exquisite stone carvings that adorn this extraordinary temple.

Vietnam Fine Arts Museum - 🎨 Vietnam Fine Arts Museum – Where the Soul of Vietnamese Art Comes Alive 🇻🇳 📍 Address: 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi🕘 Opening Hours: Daily from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM🎟️ Entrance Fee: Around 40,000 VND for adults (discounts available for students & children)🌐 Website: vnfam.vn 🏛️ A Treasure Trove of Vietnamese Creativity Just a short stroll southwest of the Vietnam Military History Museum, the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum (Bảo tàng Mỹ thuật Việt Nam) is one of Hanoi’s most inspiring cultural stops. Set inside a charming three-story colonial building with signature chocolate-brown shutters, this museum showcases the incredible journey of Vietnamese art — from prehistoric relics to modern masterpieces. Originally established in 1966, the museum was once a French girls’ boarding school before being transformed into a national gallery. Today, it stands as Vietnam’s premier collection of fine art, reflecting the country’s deep cultural roots, spiritual traditions, and the creative evolution shaped by centuries of history. 🖌️ From Bronze Drums to Modern Brushstrokes The museum’s exhibits are arranged chronologically, allowing visitors to follow the flow of Vietnamese art through time. It’s like stepping into a visual history book — each floor reveals a new chapter of the nation’s artistic spirit. 🪶 1. Ancient & Early Vietnamese Art The journey begins with Dong Son culture artifacts — intricately decorated bronze drums, tools, and ceremonial figures dating back over 2,000 years. These remarkable items highlight Vietnam’s early artistic achievements and its connection to agriculture, music, and spiritual life. Next, you’ll encounter Cham sculptures and Angkor-style carvings depicting celestial dancers and Hindu deities. Their elegance and rhythm are breathtaking — proof that art in Vietnam has always been deeply intertwined with religion and mythology. 🪷 2. Buddhist and Imperial Art (17th–19th Centuries) One of the most striking sections features Buddhist art from the 17th and 18th centuries — an era often called the golden age of temple sculpture. ✨ Don’t miss the wooden statues from Tay Phuong Pagoda, famous for their lifelike expressions and intricate carving. These figures, once worshiped in ancient temples, seem almost alive, capturing moments of meditation, serenity, and enlightenment. You’ll also find imperial lacquerware, silk paintings, and altarpieces from the Nguyen dynasty — beautifully preserved works that reflect the aesthetics of Vietnam’s last royal court. 🌾 3. Folk Art and Ethnic Diversity Moving up through the museum, the energy shifts from solemn temple art to the vivid colors of Vietnamese folk art. 🐓 Dong Ho woodblock prints from Bac Ninh Province are particularly delightful — playful yet philosophical, these traditional prints depict scenes of rural life, legends, and moral lessons. There’s also a fascinating section on ethnic minority art, displaying textiles, masks, and ritual objects from groups such as the Tay, Hmong, and Thai peoples. Together, they paint a vivid picture of Vietnam’s incredible cultural mosaic. 🖼️ 4. Twentieth-Century and Contemporary Art The final floors of the museum reveal Vietnam’s journey through colonialism, revolution, and modernization — all reflected through its evolving art styles. 🎨 Early 20th-century works show the influence of French realism and impressionism, as Vietnamese painters studied at the École des Beaux-Arts de l’Indochine in Hanoi. Artists like To Ngoc Van, Nguyen Phan Chanh, and Bui Xuan Phai became pioneers of modern Vietnamese painting, blending European techniques with traditional subjects. Post-1954, during the war years, Socialist Realism dominated — paintings of workers, soldiers, and farmers proudly portrayed the nation’s collective spirit. But since the 1990s, a new generation of artists has emerged, embracing experimental and global influences while maintaining a distinctly Vietnamese voice. Expect to see striking modern installations, abstract works, and mixed-media pieces that reflect themes of identity, resilience, and rapid change in 21st-century Vietnam. 🌟 Why You’ll Love Visiting the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum This isn’t just a place for art lovers — it’s a visual diary of Vietnamese history and culture. Tucked away in the quiet Ba Dinh District, this patriotic museum commemorates Vietnam’s remarkable defense during the December 1972 air campaign, known internationally as the “Christmas Bombings” and locally as “Dien Bien Phu in the Air.” It’s here that visitors can witness firsthand the remnants of the war that reshaped global history. 💥 The Story Behind the “B-52 Victory” Between December 18 and 29, 1972, U.S. President Richard Nixon launched Operation Linebacker II, an intense bombing campaign targeting Hanoi and other major northern cities. Over 15,000 tons of bombs were dropped within just 12 days, devastating parts of the capital — including hospitals, schools, and residential neighborhoods. However, the Vietnamese forces stood firm. In one of the most dramatic moments of the war, 15 American B-52 bombers were shot down, a feat that became a powerful symbol of resistance. This turning point strengthened Vietnam’s position during peace talks and marked the beginning of the end of the war. The Vietnamese call it “Dien Bien Phu tren khong” — “Dien Bien Phu in the Air” — drawing a direct comparison to the historic 1954 victory that ended French colonial rule. 🏛️ Inside the B-52 Victory Museum As you step inside, you’ll notice that this isn’t your typical war museum filled only with facts and figures. It’s a deeply emotional and symbolic tribute to Vietnamese resilience and unity. ✨ Highlights include: 🧱 Wreckage of a real B-52 bomber, dramatically displayed in the courtyard. 🖼️ Photographs and documents detailing the December 1972 bombings. 🎖️ Artifacts from the Vietnamese air defense units, including missiles, radar equipment, and uniforms. 🎬 Video presentations explaining how the downing of the B-52s influenced the end of the war. One of the most moving exhibits is the section dedicated to the lives lost during the bombings, showcasing both the tragedy and the determination of Hanoi’s citizens during those dark days. 🌊 Don’t Miss: Huu Tiep Lake (B-52 Lake) Just a short walk away from the museum lies Huu Tiep Lake, a small, peaceful pond with a massive piece of twisted metal rising from the water — the remains of a downed B-52. 🪶 Surrounded by quiet homes and small cafes, the site is haunting yet beautiful. Locals still refer to it simply as “the B-52 Lake,” and it serves as a poignant reminder of how war and daily life once collided in the heart of Hanoi. If you visit both the museum and the lake, you’ll get a complete picture of this historic event — from the strategic overview to the very real scars it left on the city. 📸 Tips for Visiting in 2025 🕓 Plan your visit early: The museum closes by 4:30 PM, so mornings are best for fewer crowds and better light for photography. 🎧 Take a guide or download an audio tour: Some exhibits are labeled in Vietnamese only, but English-speaking guides or online resources can help bring the stories to life. ☕ Combine with nearby attractions: The museum sits between Ba Dinh Square and the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, making it easy to include all three in a half-day cultural trip. 📱 Check for temporary exhibits: As of 2025, the museum occasionally features new digital installations and short documentaries about aerial warfare and international peacekeeping missions. 🚖 How to get there: A quick Grab or taxi ride from Hanoi Old Quarter takes about 15 minutes. Parking for scooters is also available onsite. ❤️ Why You Should Visit The B-52 Victory Museum is not only about old aircraft and dusty archives — it’s about Vietnam’s enduring spirit. Walking through the exhibits, you can sense the pride and pain of a people who refused to surrender, even in the face of overwhelming odds. For history lovers, photographers, and curious travelers alike, this museum offers a raw, unfiltered glimpse into Hanoi’s wartime past, framed through a uniquely Vietnamese perspective. So next time you’re in Hanoi, take a step off the beaten tourist path — and spend an hour or two exploring this powerful piece of living history. 🇻🇳✨ 🌐 Quick Summary Category Details Location 157 Doi Can Street, Ba Dinh, Hanoi Hours Tues–Thurs, Sat & Sun: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Ticket Free entry Highlights B-52 wreckage, air defense exhibits, photos & documents Nearby Ba Dinh Square, Huu Tiep Lake, Museum of Ethnology
