When you arrive in Bangkok, you'll be greeted and taken to your hotel. This evening, join your tour leader (or local guide) for a welcome drink and an overview of the tour.
This morning, we will explore the Grand Palace and the revered Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaeo). Next, we’ll visit Wat Pho, home to an impressive 46-meter reclining Buddha, which is the oldest and largest temple in Bangkok. We'll also experience a glimpse of Bangkok's historic river life during a boat trip through the Thonburi canals. In the afternoon, we'll head to the National Museum, the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. In the evening, take some time to discover the vibrant night markets and restaurants of Bangkok.
We'll delve deeper into Thailand's vibrant capital by exploring the bustling Chinatown and the notorious Sampeng Lane, known for its historical brothels and opium dens. Additionally, we'll visit Jim Thompson’s stunning traditional Thai house. In the afternoon, we'll make our way to the Golden Mount, which was once the highest point in Bangkok and remains a fantastic location for sweeping views of this remarkable city.
We head to the renowned floating markets at Damnoen Saduak, enjoying a leisurely ride on a sampan boat. Afterward, we journey east to the River Kwai region, which features lush rainforests and the beautiful Kwai Noi River. We will reach our riverside hotel via a long-tail boat, immersing ourselves in the serene forest atmosphere.
Today, we will visit Hell Fire Pass, where a poignant museum has been established to commemorate the Allied POWs who lost their lives during the construction of the Burma-Siam railway. We'll travel to Kanchanaburi aboard the 'Death Railway' train, cross the famous 'Bridge on the River Kwai,' and take time to explore touching wartime cemeteries as well as an intriguing museum.
We head east to explore the remnants of Ayuthaya, which was once the heart of a formidable empire. Our journey also takes us to Bang Pa In, a unique ensemble of structures influenced by a royal trip to Europe, now serving as the summer palace for the Royal family. We conclude our day with a captivating nighttime tour of Ayuthaya’s beautifully illuminated temples.
This morning, we set off early for Sukhothai, making a stop in Lopburi, known for its playful monkeys and its impressive array of Khmer temple ruins. Our journey continues to Phitsanulok, where we visit a folk museum showcasing an intriguing collection of rural artifacts. We arrive in Sukhothai in the late afternoon, allowing time to explore the lively night market and delightful food bazaar.
Legendary Sukhothai was Thailand's inaugural capital and is celebrated as the origin of many beloved aspects of Thai culture, including classical dance, stunning architecture, and delectable cuisine. We will explore the remnants of this historic city, featuring the intriguing Wat Mahathat. Afterwards, we continue to Lampang to visit Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, the most remarkable temple in northern Thailand. We arrive in Chiang Rai in the late afternoon.
This morning, we set off for Mae Sai, the northernmost town in Thailand. After reaching the border with Myanmar, we proceed to Sop Ruak, the heart of the Golden Triangle where the borders of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar converge. Here, we will visit the intriguing Hall of Opium before heading back to Chiang Rai for the evening, where we'll explore the vibrant night bazaar.
Today, we travel to the Chiang Dao caves, an extensive network of caverns that stretches 14 kilometers into the depths. In the afternoon, we reach our distinctive Lisu Lodge, renowned for its beautiful mountain setting and its commitment to employing local residents as managers, cooks, and hosts. From our lodge, you can choose to cycle through the picturesque countryside, visit a nearby Akha tribal village, and engage with our welcoming village hosts.
This morning, we’ll explore a Lisu herb garden and enjoy tea with a village shaman (healer). We’ll also embark on a short elephant trek, a relaxing bamboo rafting experience, and a bullock-cart ride through the stunning countryside. After leaving our lodge, we head to Chiang Mai, the vibrant cultural capital of the north, known for its over 100 monasteries, excellent shopping, and delightful restaurants. We’ll familiarize ourselves with the city on a samlor (cyclo) tour, visiting some of its most beautiful temples, including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang, and Wat Chiang Man. In the evening, don’t miss the chance to explore the famous night bazaar.
This morning, you'll uncover the secrets of Thai cuisine in a half-day cooking class. We’ll begin by visiting a local market to gather fresh ingredients before diving into the preparation of some delicious yet straightforward recipes. Designed for 'kitchen novices,' this class promises a fun experience, allowing you to enjoy the dishes you create!
Doi Suthep monastery is among the most tranquil and picturesque locations in Thailand. Situated in the hills to the west of Chiang Mai, this enchanting monastery is a must-see for anyone visiting the north and holds great spiritual significance. We’ll visit Doi Suthep in the morning, when it’s less crowded, allowing us to appreciate the views of Chiang Mai to the east. On our way back to Chiang Mai, we’ll make a stop at the intriguing hill tribe museum and indulge in Khao Soi soup, a local specialty from the north.
